Metzae.net

This site went up on the first of July, 2000, and kept running in one form or another until about 2014. What you are looking at is how it stood in 2006.

The laptop is a photograph of the machine it ran on, a Sony VAIO in the Texas Tech student union. The screen inside it is the site itself at its real resolution, 1280 by 800, one pixel to one pixel. The Windows and the Firefox around it are drawn, not emulated. None of it is a screenshot.

The clock is yours, shifted back twenty years, which is why the date reads 2006. The site changes colour thirteen times across a day on that clock. That part is not decoration. One set of eggs only appears during four of those editions, and if you are not looking at the right hour you will not find them.

The Shoutbox is real and shared. The visitor count is the real one, carried over from the original counter file. The Hall of Fame is the 2003-04 board. Some of it works exactly as it did, some of it had to be rebuilt from the source, and a few things are still missing.

Where to go

The Splash The edition art for whatever hour it currently is. Thirteen of them.
The Egg Hunt Ten eggs, four tiers, 1,150 credits. Some need finding, some need solving. Not all of them are on this page, and not all of them are on this site.
Hall of Fame Who found what, back when people were finding them.
The Shoutbox One shout per person per day. It is not a chat room. It never was.

Two keys

Ctrl + Shift + M   puts the browser window back in its frame, and shows you the desktop behind it.
Ctrl + Shift + E   steps through the thirteen editions without waiting for the clock.
